Ongoing research projects

Late-onset dementia in the 1932 Scottish Mental Survey Cohort: is there evidence of clustering?
Using record linkage to identify which participants in the 1932 Scottish Mental Survey have developed dementia and to ascertain the geographical distribution of cases.

Health Survey for England
I am analysing data from this annual longitudinal study to investigate predictors of developing dementia and cardiovascular disease including socioeconomic factors and psychological distress.

Dementia in Swedish twins (HARMONY study:http://ki.se/ki/jsp/polopoly.jsp?d=13903&a=30105&l=en)
I am investigating geographical clustering of dementia in this cohort of twins.

Scottish Institute of Human Relations: thinking about older people
This group at the Scottish Institute of Human Relations (http://www.sihr.org.uk/) has run two successful study days on psychodynamic insights into later life and a course with an observational component is currently being planned.

Predictors of Hospitalisation
With the Scottish Dementia Clinical Research Network writing group, I am working on a project looking at predictors of hospitalisation of people with dementia in the hope of being able to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions.
